University of Cologne

The University of Cologne, founded in 1388, is one of the oldest universities of Europe. Currently, 49 000 students are enrolled at the University of Cologne, 11 % of whom come from abroad. In recognition of its high level of research and teaching, the University of Cologne was granted the title of “Excellence University”. The university also maintains strong collaborations with international, high-profile industries in Cologne and the surrounding region.

The University of Cologne has been distinguished within the framework of the Initiative of Excellence. German Research Foundation (DFG) and German Science Council awarded the title of “Universities of Excellence” to the UoC, acknowledging its role in the top 11 out of 400 universities in Germany. Funding by the federal state has been awarded to implement the institutional strategy, including support for both top level research and young scientists, for development at home and internationalisation.
